North America was first populated approximately 15,000 years ago by migrants from Asia by way of a land bridge from Siberia to Alaska. These indigenous people spread throughout North and South America creating small communities and large empires. Their descendants are known as First Nations people in Canada, Native Americans in the USA and Native Mexicans or Mexican Native Americans in Mexico. Each tribe has their own language and religious beliefs.
In 1492, North America was discovered by the Europeans and the English, French and Spanish began to colonize. English is the most common language spoken in North America mostly in the United States and Canada, followed by Spanish in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America and then French of which 20% of Canadian’s speak as their first language.

As of 2020, the top five most populated countries in North America are: The United States at 321.2 million; Mexico at 121 million; Canada at 35.8 million; Guatemala at 16.2 million and Cuba at 11.2 million.
